Visit Greek Olive's Website
Greek Olive is a family owned Greek restaurant in Roy, Utah. Greek Olive is a small business that did not have any information online for customers. The goal of this project was to create a website for the company to share information such as their menu with their customers.
Before creating anything, I wanted to understand what the company and their customers wanted. I created a survey to collect demographic information about customers as well as to ask questions about what customers were interested in. I used this information to create a persona with Xtensio so I would have a better idea of who I was designing for.
I worked with the company owner to decide what information to include on the website. We wrote out the content that was needed for the website and how many pages we wanted created. We chose branding keywords for the website. I selected colors, images, and style elements that I felt represented those keywords which I compiled into a moodboard using Canva. At this point, I created wireframes for the website. I made high fidelity prototypes of both a desktop and a mobile version of the website.
I conducted a small usability test of my prototype. I selected a list of tasks for users to complete. Two users tested the mobile version and two tested the desktop version. I found that features were too large on the desktop version and that users had trouble navigating back to the home page. Based on the results of the test I modified my prototype.
After I had tested my prototype I built the website using Bulma and custom CSS.
Right now, I am waiting for professional photographs and then the website will be put online.

I learned a lot about the design process while I was creating this project. I learned that it is important to have the user in mind during the entire process and to get feedback from them. This project was the first time I collected user data or made a persona. Having a persona helped me keep the project focused. Conducting user tests helped me know what elements of the design worked and what needed to be changed. I was surprised by some of the results I received from the user test. I realized that I need to ask people what they are thinking and not just assume I know.
I also gained more experience with building websites. I ran into some challenges moving from design to code and had to redesign some features. I was also fairly new to using the Bulma framework which had a bit of a learning curve. However, in the end I was able to create a website that the restaurant owners were happy about.
